Explore the Mont-Saint-Michel!

What will you discover during this tour ?

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Mont-Saint-Michel is the first touristic site visited in Normandy. Immerse yourself in the picturesque atmosphere of Mont Saint-Michel’s medieval village. Built behind strong ramparts, discover the stone houses, and stroll in the narrow streets.

Originally erected as an oratory during the 8th century, Mont-Saint-Michel evolved over the centuries into a monastery dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael. Its abbey, towering atop the hill, stands as a breathtaking testament to this religious fervor, blending Romanesque and Gothic architectures. Throughout its tumultuous history, Mont-Saint-Michel had witnessed numerous historical events, from Viking invasions to the Hundred Years’ War. Its strategic position made it a place of defense and refuge, but also a symbol of resistance and unwavering faith.

Tour Itinerary

Visit of the village and the fortifications

During the 10th century, the village grew up below the walls of the monastery. An impregnable stronghold during the Hundred Years War. Mont-Saint-Michel is also an example of military architecture.

Visit of the church and the monastery

The history of the Abbey started in 708 when Aubert, bishop of Avranches built on the island a sanctuary dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael. The Mont became a major pilmigrage site.
